Woman dies in shooting on Indy’s far east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police believe an argument between a woman and her boyfriend led to a fatal shooting Friday mornig on the city’s far east side.

Around 3:20 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex on John Jay Drive near 38th Street and Mitthoeffer Road.

Officers arrived and found a woman shot. She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but did not survive.

“It appears to be another case of a problem that could be resolved without violence,” IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer said. “Talk it out. If you can’t talk it out, use a mediator. If that’s not going to work out, walk away. Nothing’s worth taking somebody’s life over like this.”

Police at the scene told News 8 they are still looking for the suspect but investigators do not believe there is a threat to the public.
