Shelbyville mom arrested after 22-month-old child found dead in driveway

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Shelbyville mother was arrested for child neglect after police found her 22-month-old child deceased in her driveway.

The Shelbyville Police Department says officers responded around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday to report of an unresponsive child in the 900 block of Hale Road. That’s a housing development off of Miller Avenue near the Big Blue River.

Police arrived and were met outside by Sophie Igou, who was beside her child who laid in the driveway, Shelbyville police said in a release Thursday.

Officers tried to give the child First Aid, but it was quickly determined that the child was deceased.

Investigators were called to the scene and Igou was arrested for neglect of a dependent causing death.

An autopsy has been requested to determine the cause of death, but police did not say when it will be completed.

Formal charges have not yet been filed.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Fred McConnaughey or Detective Mark Newman at 317-392-5106.
