Nashville’s Hobnob Corner Restaurant closing after 46 years

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — November will mark the end of an era in Brown County, Indiana, when Hobnob Corner Restaurant closes its doors after 46 years in business.

The Cole family, which owns and operates Hobnob Corner Restaurant in Nashville, broke the news Tuesday afternoon on Facebook.

“Unfortunately, our lease has not been renewed, and we will be closing by the second week of November,” the restaurant wrote. “We are deeply grateful to our loyal customers and dedicated staff who made this journey possible and unforgettable.”

The restaurant, located where Van Buren and Main streets meet in downtown Nashville, serves hearty American fare such as pot roast, liver and onions, and breaded tenderloin in a building that dates back to 1873. It has been owned and operated by Warren and Betsy Cole since 1979.

Comments on the restaurant’s Facebook post show that news of the closing was a surprise to many.

One commenter wrote, “I cannot believe it!! Why wouldn’t they renew a lease for a successful business? Where will I go for liver and onions?? You guys make them just like Mom used to.”

Another added, “Hobnob is an iconic piece of history for this town, and 46 years is an incredible run — I’ll always cherish the memories of eating there with my family and friends.”

Online reports indicate that the restaurant will be replaced by Bird’s Nest Café, a restaurant on West Franklin Street in Nashville that’s known for its brunch-focused menu.
