PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WISH) — An investigation into a fentanyl overdose death led to charges for a Plymouth, Indiana, man and woman for dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death.
In April, an Indiana State Police detective was contacted by a detective with the Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team concerning an overdose death of a White Pigeon, Michigan, man who was found dead in his vehicle in Michigan. An autopsy concluded a combination of several drugs, including fentanyl, led to the death of the man.
The investigation in Michigan led authorities to believe that Ernest Westerhoff, 35, and Alyssa Kring, 32, both of Plymouth, may be involved in the overdose death.
Investigators with Indiana State Police, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan State Police Southwest Enforcement Team, and the Plymouth Police Department began an investigation that spanned several months. This investigation concluded that Westerhoff and Kring were involved in providing the fentanyl that led to the death of the man in Michigan.
The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office received this investigation and found probable cause for the charge of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death against Westerhoff and Kring. These warrants were served to both in the Marshall County Jail, where they are incarcerated on other charges.
Westerhoff and Kring both had their initial hearings Thursday, where bond was set at $100,000 cash for each of them.
