INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The third annual Mike Epps Community Festival returns this year with an expanded three-day lineup of free events designed to boost local morale and reduce violence.

Circle City Broadcasting is a partner with the Mike Epps Community Festival in supporting the celebration.

The festivities begin Aug. 27 with a comedy show at The Murat Theatre. The celebration continues from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Washington Park with a free concert featuring performances by One Way, Club Nouveau, Pokey Bear, and Angela Winbush. The weekend concludes Aug. 29 with a car show in Lawrence. Throughout the weekend, the festival also hosts health clinics and a KidZone. All events are free and open to the public.

Comedian Mike Epps, an Indianapolis native, leads the effort to support his home city by providing entertainment to those who might otherwise face financial barriers.

“A lot of people can’t afford to go and have a good time, go to concerts. So I just made it free for those who really can’t afford to go to a concert when it comes to Indianapolis,” Epps said.

Epps said he remains deeply tied to the city’s challenges and successes.

“Indianapolis, this is where I’m from. This is where I came up at. So, you know, a lot of the things that are a lot of issues, a lot of things that are happening in the city, you know, I’m just connected to it,” he added.
