SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officers are investigating after the body of a Mishawaka man was recovered from the St. Joseph River in South Bend Wednesday.
Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, the South Bend Fire Department, the South Bend Police Department, and conservation officers were called to Seitz Park on a report of a person falling into the river. First responders arrived and search in the last known location of the man. His body was located in area in about 8-10 feet of water.
The man, identified as Travis Bird, 41, of Mishawaka, was pronounced dead at the scene.
