Police shooting reported in east side Indianapolis neighborhood
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man was in serious condition after a police shooting late Thursday afternoon on the east side of Indianapolis.
Medics and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to an investigation and a person shot at 5:50 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of North Grant Avenue. That’s in the Shannon Park housing addition, also known as the Grace Tuxedo Park neighborhood. It’s just off East 10th Street a couple of blocks west of Linwood Square shopping center.
Officer Drew Brown of IMPD said in impromptu news conference shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday near the crime scene that authorities with a violence reduction team had located a wanted man, and made loud, verbal commands for him to peacefully surrender prior to the police shooting. Police gunfire hit the man.
Brown did not say whether the man, who was not immediately identified publicly, whether the man had a gun or fired at officers. Brown declined to take questions, but said IMPD would have another news conference later Wednesday night.
No officers were injured.
A neighbor had told News 8’s Tim Spears that it appears police were conducting a raid ahead of the police shooting.
No additional information was immediately available.
