INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man shot and injured on the north side early Wednesday morning died shortly after arriving at a hospital, Indianapolis police say.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says officers were dispatched to investigate a “shots fired” incident in the 6700 block of Woodmere Circle in the Delaware Trails area, west of Hoover Road, around 5:41 a.m.
They arrived and located a man suffering a gunshot wound near the residence.
IMPD originally reported their condition as “awake and breathing,” though the person died sometime after arriving at a hospital.
While at the scene, officers met with a 911 caller, who said they were approached by two people wearing masks. At some point during the encounter, shots were fired.
The roles of the people involved, including the shooter and victim, weren’t immediately clear. Police say they did locate a gun on the scene, and the 911 caller is working with detectives.
A public information officer was expected to provide more information once available.
