INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Fever fans all across the world have been thinking about guard Kelsey Mitchell since she had to leave Tuesday night’s playoff game due to an injury.
It was a scary sight in the third quarter of the Fever’s Game 5 matchup against the Las Vegas Aces in their best-of-five semifinal round series of the WNBA Playoffs. Mitchell seemed to lose feeling in her legs before needing help from an official as she slowly fell onto the floor. She was on the floor for some time before having to be helped off the court.
Immediately after the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White said that Mitchell was dealing with a lot of lower body cramping and that the guard was actually in a local hospital receiving fluids. She was released from the hospital on Tuesday night.
Mitchell posted a message on social media on Wednesday, providing more details on what happened:
“i suffered from something called Rhabdomyolysis last night. my muscles stopped producing and reached it’s maximum capacity. i went into a sense of numbness/ paralyzing feeling with no movement from my lower extremities for up to 5 to 7 seconds. because my muscles stopped producing positive blood to my bloodstream, my body locked up from a physical standpoint and from there fatigue and cramping settled in. it sucked. i panicked because i began to think the worse when i felt like i couldn’t move my legs”
She went on to write that she was “walking and moving at a slow pace, but i will be fine very soon.”
Mitchell shared her thanks for “the prayers, love, respect, and support throughout all of this.”
Mitchell, who led the Fever in scoring during the 2025 season, played a total of 23 minutes on Tuesday night, scoring 15 points before suffering the game-ending injury.
The Fever ended up falling to the Aces 107-98 in overtime, ending the Fever’s playoff run.
