Indianapolis flu clinics offer free shots to residents of all ages

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Marion County Public Health Department’s ACTION Health Center will offer free flu shots at two clinics in Indianapolis next week.

Flu shots will be available from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and from 1 – 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, at ACTION Health Center, 2868 Pennsylvania St. Appointments can be made by calling (317) 221-3400.

“Getting the flu shot is the most effective way to protect yourself and family from influenza,” Dr. Millicent Moye, director of ACTION Health Center, said in a release. “Vaccinated people are less likely to get the flu, and if they do, they are less likely to experience severe flu-related illness, hospitalization and even death.”

The flu can be especially harmful to young children, seniors, and those with asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or other chronic conditions, according to Dr. Moye.

“Do you really have time to be sick?” Moye asked. “Get the flu shot, and protect yourself and your family.”

While the ACTION Health Center typically serves residents from birth up through age 26, the flu clinics will be available to residents of any age at no cost.

The center offers a range of services including physical exams, lab testing, sexual health exams, wellness exams, daycare physicals, mental health exams and treatment, and mental health counseling.

Referrals can also be made to other MCPHD departments such as nutrition, healthy homes, and community-based care.
