ATTICA, Ind. (WISH) — A motorcyclist was killed in a Sunday afternoon crash after fleeing from police at high speeds in northern Fountain County, said a news release issued Monday night from Indiana State Police.
The identity of the motorcyclist was not yet shared publicly, pending notification of the next of kin.
A trooper patrolling southbound U.S. 41 about 3:45 p.m. Sunday clocked a northbound motorcycle traveling over 100 mph in a 55-mph zone near County Road 650 North, an area with farmland just south of the unincorporated community of Rob Roy. It’s about a 80-minute drive northwest of downtown Indianapolis.
Despite attempting to stop the motorcycle, Trooper David Millburg lost sight of it and notified other law enforcement agencies to assist in the search.
Two Attica Police Department officers, who were not identified in the release, later spotted the motorcycle about 6 miles north of Rob Roy. The motorcycle sideswiped one of the officers’ patrol vehicles before continuing into the Fountain County city of 3,200 residents. The chase ended when the motorcycle failed to stop at the intersection of Main Street and Perry Street, colliding with a Chevrolet Silverado truck.
The motorcyclist was ejected and, despite lifesaving efforts, died later at a hospital.
The truck driver was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. The release did not name the truck driver.
