INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The federal government shutdown has already affected Indiana’s National Park Service properties.
The NPS has three locations in Indiana: Indiana Dunes National Park in Porter, George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Vincennes and the Lincoln Boyhood Home National Memorial in Spencer County.
An automated phone message at Indiana Dunes indicated that park is closed. A phone message at George Rogers Clark NHP indicated staff there are on furlough. The Knox County Convention and Visitors Bureau confirmed the park is closed. The Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Spencer County is also closed.
According to data compiled by CNN, about 9,300 NPS employees have been furloughed due to the partial government shutdown, representing 64% of that agency’s workforce.
