INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Gov. Mike Braun on social media Monday morning touted that he had a “great call” with President Donald Trump just a day after the president called out Indiana lawmakers over redistricting moves.
Trump’s criticism came after Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore Rod Bray, a Republican, announced Friday that the Senate would not convene in December to vote on redistricting due to a lack of support. Traditionally, redistricting occurs every ten years following the census.
Then, on Sunday, Trump admonished Indiana State Senate Republicans on Truth Social, saying that he is “very disappointed” that they are not moving ahead with redistricting. Trump also claimed that Braun “wouldn’t be governor” without his support.
Braun, a Republican, did not mention Trump’s comments in his post on X, but he and Trump had a “great call” discussing the matter.
“I told him I remain committed to standing with him on the critical issue of passing fair maps in Indiana to ensure the MAGA agenda is successful in Congress,” he said.
Braun also attacked the Indiana Senate, accusing them of “hiding behind closed doors.”
“Indiana’s State Legislators must show up for work and take a public vote for fair maps to counter the gerrymandering in California and Illinois. But the Indiana State Senate is hiding behind closed doors and refusing to even bring redistricting to a vote.
“Hoosiers deserve to know where their legislators stand and expect them to show up for work, not walk out and hide in the dark.”
Senate President Pro Tempore Bray said in a preview of the legislative session that the Senate still plans to come to work on Jan. 5, indicating his stance on redistricting remains the same as it was Friday.
