DANVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A dump truck driver died upon crashing into a home Thursday afternoon west of the town of Danville, the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release issued Thursday night.
The driver was a 63-year-old man from the Hendricks County town of Lizton, the release said.
The crash happened just before 4:20 p.m. Thursday northeast of the intersection of U.S. 36 and County Road 450 West, about 3 miles west of downtown Danville. The rural area has a few homes on large acreage.
The crash closed U.S. 36 for about 90 minutes as deputies and fire personnel started to try to find out what may have caused the crash. Investigators think the dump truck was eastbound on U.S. 36 when it crossed the centerline and struck the front of the home at 4416 W. U.S. 36.
It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, the release said.
The sheriff’s office later Thursday night reported that no one was home at the time of the crash.
The release did not provide any information about the condition of the home.
