Child critical after being rescued from pond in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS — A boy was in critical condition after Speedway fire crews found him submerged and unresponsive during a water rescue Friday evening in a pond at an apartment complex.
The Speedway and Wayne Township fire departments and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called at 6:22 p.m. Friday to a water rescue and a welfare check involving a child in the 600 block of Magdalene Lane. The location is in the Boardwalk at Westlake Apartments and Townhomes, southeast of the I-465 interchange with West 10th Street in Indianapolis.
Battalion Chief Eric Bannister with the Wayne Township Fire Department said the Speedway Fire Department arrived first, followed shortly by Wayne Township crews. Speedway crews found the boy in the water, and he was taken to a children’s hospital in critical condition.
