INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested Sunday morning on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated. On Thursday, Allen spoke publicly for the first time since the arrest.
Allen said he’ll keep the discussions regarding the arrest in house.
“Just focused on being a good football player and ready for the season,” Allen said.
“Because it’s an ongoing legal matter, we’re not going to discuss it,” Allen added. “Like I said, just focused on football and being a good teammate.”
Allen was asked what he wants the fans to know about him.
“I take my job serious,” Allen said. “I’m a good football player and I try to be a good teammate.”
Colts general manager Chris Ballard expressed his support for Allen on Tuesday.
“I’m not going to comment on what happened, but what I’m going to tell you is good people make mistakes,” Ballard said. “He’s a tremendous human being. Give him some grace, and he’ll work through the process of the legal system.”
Colts head coach Shane Steichen addressed Allen’s situation on Thursday.
“I got a lot of respect for Keenan,” Steichen said. “I had a private conversation with him, like I said, we’ll keep that in house and keep that private.”
Steichen and Ballard both said that Keenan Allen will play Week 1.
