Winterlights returns to Newfields
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The dazzling spectacle Winterlights has returned to the Newfields grounds for its ninth year, running from now until Jan. 4.
Over two million lights will illuminate the skies over Newfields and the Lilly House, whose exterior light show plays in time with music conducted by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
News 8 joined leaders at Newfields Monday morning to get a tour of Winterlights.
Jonathan Wright, director of The Garden and Fairbanks Park for Newfields, says the work to get Winterlights up and running starts months in advance.
“People will not believe this, we start putting up the lights in July because it’s the only way we can get lights all the way up the tips of the branches,” Wright explained. “We get all of the big trees completed before we launch Harvest.”
Wright said this year, the Lilly House is all decked out with different themes. The walk through experience around the campus, Wright adds, is a great spot for families to create memories during the holidays.
“(The Lilly House) is really just done over the top, we have some new things in there as well,” he said.
“We try to create a holiday tradition for everyone and we’re just so thrilled this incredible community comes together.”
Winterlights will also have several themed nights throughout the season. For that information and tickets, you can find that here.
