Indiana Sen. Greg Goode’s home swatted after Trump social media post

Trump reacts to redistricting vote/State senator house swatted/Panel says redistricting not dead yet – News 8 at 10

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana Sen. Greg Goode’s home was swatted on Sunday, hours after President Donald Trump mentioned him in a social media post about redistricting.

Swatting is the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, the Terre Haute Police Department received an email advising that harm had been done to people inside a home in southeastern Vigo County. This information was sent to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, who dispatched deputies to the address, which is the location of Goode’s home. According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, attempts were initially unsuccessful to contact anyone at the home, but ultimately contact was made with the people inside the home. All occupants of the home were secure, safe, and unharmed.

Greg Goode, a Republican, confirmed that he and his family were unharmed. Goode also expressed gratitude toward the first responders who handled the situation.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, along with federal authorities, are investigating this incident.

Goode provided the following statement via his Facebook page:

“This evening, my family and I were victims of a swatting incident during which a fake communication was sent to local law enforcement officials. Vigo County sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident under the impression of a domestic violence emergency. The deputies professionally fulfilled their duty. While this entire incident is unfortunate and reflective of the volatile nature of our current political environment, I give thanks to God that my family and I are ok. I want to thank Vigo County Sheriff Derek Fell, Terre Haute Police Chief Kevin Barrett and the first responders who serve our county and community with bravery and professionalism.”

Greg Goode, Republican senator for Indiana District 38.
