GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — An Indianapolis man is behind bars after police say he fatally shot an uninvolved bystander during a fight with another person at a Greenwood apartment complex.
The Greenwood Police Department says Bidan Mburu, 22, was found shot and injured in the 800 block of Dover Drive around 10:15 p.m. Monday. Medics rushed Mburu to IU Methodist Hospital, where he later died.
That address is to the Westminster Apartments near County Line Road and U.S. 31.
During the investigation, police learned the suspect, 21-year-old Isiah Peak Jr., got into a fight with another person. While fighting, Peak drew a firearm and shot at the other person but missed, striking the uninvolved Mburu.
Peak fled the scene, but was later located at the Inn Town Suites near Interstate 70 and Post Road. Detectives arrested Peak without incident.
Peak was booked into the Johnson County jail on preliminary charges of murder and intimidation with a deadly weapon. He was also wanted on a warrant for charges of false identification and operating while never receiving a driver’s license.
