21-year-old man charged with murder, attempted murder in Greenwood shooting

FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — A 21-year-old Indianapolis man was formally charged Friday with murder and attempted murder in connection to a shooting on Tuesday night in Greenwood.

The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Isiah Quin Peak Jr. in Johnson Superior Court 4 in Franklin. An initial hearing was set for 2:30 p.m. Monday. He was being held Friday in the Johnson County jail in Franklin without bond, although a bail review also will happen Monday, online court records say.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Peak was involved in a fight with a female over pictures and videos on his phone, which escalated when he retrieved a firearm. The affidavit said the situation intensified when Peak shot at the female’s brother, missing him but fatally striking Bidan Mburu, a bystander who was uninvolved and returning to his apartment.

The Greenwood Police Department says Mburu, 22, was found shot and injured about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Dover Drive. That’s in the Westminster Apartments southwest of the intersection of County Line Road and U.S. 31. Medics rushed Mburu to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he later died.

After the shooting, Peak fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Greenwood police collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Indiana State Police to locate Peak. Detective Conner Trumble of the Greenwood Police Department provided details in the affidavit, saying that the Greenwood police’s special weapons and tactics team apprehended Peak without incident at the InTown Suites Extended Stay hotel near I-70 and Post Road in Indianapolis. Peak was staying at the hotel with another male.

The affidavit notes that Peak did not wish to speak with law enforcement after his arrest.

An address for Peak in online court records shows he lives in the 1100 block of West 34th Street in the Armstrong Park housing addition.

Online court records also showed an arrest warrant issued Sept. 2 for Peak from Greenwood City Court on two misdemeanor charges: false identity statement with intent to mislead public servants, and knowingly or intentionally operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license. He also had a pending case, filed in October 2024, on a misdemeanor charge of conversion in Greenwood City Court.

News 8 first reported on the shooting on Wednesday.
