Why Dan Orlovsky thinks Daniel Jones is playing like never before

Dan Orlovsky analyzes Daniel Jones’ start to the season

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Former Colts quarterback and current ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky joined Countdown to Kickoff as the celebrity guest on Sunday.

The Colts are off to a 3-0 start on the season, and a big part of that has been the play of quarterback Daniel Jones.

Orlovsky had rave reviews for how Jones has looked so far this season.

“They’ve got him to play in a way that he never has before in the NFL,” Orlovsky said. “I remember when he came out of Duke and went to the Giants, the one big thing that gave me high level of concern was when he got pressured, it was bad. It was always a panic with the football, a panic with a throw or a fumble, and that led to that run of turnovers that he had. And its not like the Colts have become this offense where he’s never under pressure. He’s been under pressure this year. It’s just that he’s played incredibly well in that situation. He’s thrown it well. He’s made good decisions. He’s used his legs. He’s evaded the rush. He’s been great with ball placement.”

Orlovsky added that Colts head coach Shane Steichen has a tremendous amount of trust in Jones as well, which has impacted the way Steichen has called plays, bringing the creativity back.

Jones has thrown for 816 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.6% of his passes through three games. He has also rushed for three touchdowns.

Orlovsky is also bought in on what this Colts team can be.

“I think there’s a lot of the traits and things that you need in 2025, certainly offensively, to sit there and go, this is built for a good run,” Orlovsky said.

Orlovsky played seven seasons in the NFL, playing for the Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans.

In his one season with the Colts in 2011, he played in eight games (starting five). He threw for 1,201 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The Colts will look to start the season 4-0 on Sunday, as they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Rams. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
