Stagnant weather pattern brings hot and dry conditions | Sept. 16, 2025

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — High temperatures will be just shy of record levels this week.

No big changes:

A stagnant weather pattern will maintain hot and dry conditions over the next several days.

An upper-level ridge, sandwiched between two troughs—one to the west and one to the east—forming what is known as an “omega block,” is keeping our weather pattern hot and dry for the next several days.

This pattern likely won’t break down until at least late this week, but more likely through the weekend.

Today:

High temperatures for the next several days will start in the upper 80s, including Tuesday afternoon.

Tonight:

Overnight lows will fall to the lower 60s in the city and upper 50s in outlying areas.

Rest of the week:

Highs will remain in the upper 80s through the middle and end of the week, with a few areas touching 90°F for afternoon highs.

Weekend:

By the weekend, an upper-level low shifting into the northern Plains will begin to break down the ridge over the Midwest, which should cool our temperatures slightly and possibly introduce some very isolated rain chances.

It’s worth mentioning that a few spotty rain chances will be possible over the weekend, but in this seven-day forecast, we’re leaving the rain chances out. The best rain chances will likely occur early next week, when the pattern appears to turn a bit more active.

Extended forecast:

The 6- to 10-day outlook calls for above-average precipitation. The seven-day rainfall estimates project an average of about a quarter of an inch of rainfall through early next week.
