Plainfield bank robbery suspect dies after police shooting

BELLEVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Police on Wednesday afternoon shot and killed a suspect in a Plainfield bank robbery from a day earlier.

According to a release from Plainfield Police Department and a statement from Sgt. John Perrine with Indiana State Police, officers were conducting a follow-up investigation regarding a robbery.

Plainfield Police Department was called at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday to the robbery of a bank in progress at Chase Bank, 807 Southfield Drive. That’s southwest of the intersection of Quaker Boulevard and Stafford Road.

On Wednesday, officers stopped a vehicle driven by the suspect in the rural Hendricks County community of Belleville. Police say the suspect failed to comply and fled the scene on foot while armed.

The suspect was immediately provided medical aid and taken to the hospital in critical condition after the police shooting.

Perrine said the suspect died shortly after arriving to the hospital. Police have not yet identified the suspect or the officers involved.

No officers or other individuals were injured.

Perrine told News 8 that U.S. 40 will be closed for several hours.

In accordance with department policy, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

State police are handling the investigation.
