NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WISH) — The undefeated Indianapolis Colts have had a historic start to the season.
They’ve scored the second most points in the NFL through the first three weeks with 103.
A big part of that production has been the play of wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.
“I feel like we are executing at a rate that I’ve never done like in the NFL so it feels great,” Pittman said after the Colts dominated the Titans 41-20 to stay untarnished to start the seaon.
It was a perfect performance for Pittman, who caught all six targets for 73 yards and a touchdown. Pittman seems to always have a big game in the Music City. Last year, he scored the game winner in the fourth quarter.
“Its just a great place, you know. Stadium is great. Turf is great. End zone is great. So you just got to score, right?” Pittman laughed postgame.
Pittman’s big game didn’t go unnoticed by his teammates.
“I think he was awesome after the catch,” rookie tight end Tyler Warren said. “He got open and then when he did have the ball in his hands, making plays with it. I think that’s kind of what set him apart.”
Colts have been taking full advantage of their playmaking arsenal. Quarterback Daniel Jones has spread the ball around to seven different pass catchers through the first three weeks. Pittman was the one to benefit the most against the Titans.
“I think that’s what makes us good, is that we have so many hungry dogs that are starving to eat that someone is going to make a crazy play. That’s just how it works out,” Pittman said. “We spread it out to everybody, like everybody is just like staying in the game, and I think that helps us.”
Pittman did much more than what shows up on the stats sheet. He embodied a true team player against the Titans. Even running back Jonathan Taylor gave Pittman some credit on his own big 46-yard touchdown.
“I looked back and saw that it was Pittman who was able to sustain a block downfield. So, I get amped up on runs like those because I know my teammates on the edges are fighting for me so that makes me want to go harder each, and every single play,” Taylor said.
Pittman talked about helping his running back out.
“I mean that was my guy during the whole play so I couldn’t let him make that tackle or else (Colts wide receivers coach) Reggie (Wayne) would have brought it up in film, and that’s a minus, and I can’t get a minus,” Pittman said, smiling.
Pittman hopes for another big game as he returns to his home state of California next week. The Colts face the 2-1 Los Angeles Rams at 4:05 p.m. Eastern Sunday.
