NOTRE DAME, Ind. (WISH) — The No. 24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-2) picked up its first victory of the season on Saturday by beating an in-state rival.
Notre Dame topped Purdue (2-2) by the final of 56-30 inside Notre Dame Stadium.
The game featured a nearly two-hour weather delay that began late in the second quarter, with the Irish leading 28-13.
The Notre Dame running back duo of Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price stole the show on Saturday. Love finished with 19 carries for a career-high 157 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Price had 9 carries for 74 yards and three touchdowns. Price also had a kickoff return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
Fighting Irish quarterback C.J. Carr was efficient, finishing the game 10-of-12 for 223 yards and two touchdowns. His main target was wide receiver Jordan Faison, who finished with five receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Purdue quarterback Ryan Browne was 21-of-34 for 250 yards. He also threw a touchdown and an interception.
Notre Dame finished with 535 total yards of offense, while Purdue had 379 yards of offense. The Boilermakers were held to just 76 rushing yards.
The Fighting Irish will be on the road next Saturday against Arkansas at 12 p.m. EDT.
Meanwhile, Purdue has a week off before hosting No. 9 Illinois on Oct. 4.
