INDIANAPOLIS — A person is dead after a shooting on Indianapolis’ east side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said it happened just after midnight on Ritter Avenue near 21st Street. Officers arrived and found the victim, who was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later confirmed the victim, identified as 53-year-old Jason Alexander Payton, died.
Police have not said what led to the shooting. No one is under arrest.
