INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana State Police are investigating after a person was shot on I-70 eastbound on the city’s near east side on Tuesday.
ISP Sgt. John Perrine confirmed a person was shot at the 83.7 mile marker, just east of downtown at the Rural Street and Keystone Avenue exits, in a social media post around 11:30 a.m.
In a later update, state police says an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer arrived within moments of the shooting. There, the officer met with the victim, a man who’d been shot in the leg standing outside a silver Dodge Charger.
The officer used a tourniquet on the man’s wound; Perrine said the victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
INDOT cameras showed traffic stalled for several minutes while crews investigated.
ISP says they believe the man, a passenger in the Charger, had been shot by something driving another vehicle on I-70 eastbound. Detectives say they “are following several leads and reviewing cameras in the area.”
Anyone with information on the shooting, who witnessed the shooting, or who has a dash cam in their vehicle and was in the area of the shooting around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday was asked to contact Indiana State Police or Crime Stoppers.
