INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — U.S. Marshals and Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana are each offering a reward for information as they search for an Indianapolis murder suspect.
Javon Cushenberry, 39, is wanted for a weekend shooting that killed 33-year-old Rachel Rakes and critically injured a man who was with her.
Around 12:35 a.m. Sunday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a home on Westbrook Avenue near West Washington Street.
There, they found a man with gunshot wounds on the front porch of a house. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Officers entered the home and located Rakes, who had been shot at least once. She was taken to a hospital, but did not survive.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but they did not say how Cushenberry knew either victim.
A reward is being offered to anyone who provides information leading to Cushnberry’s arrest.
IMPD says Cushenberry should be considered “armed and extremely dangerous.”
Anyone who has seen Cushenberry or knows his whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Steven Gray at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or e-mail the detective at Steven.Gray@indy.gov.
