Chris Brown, Usher concert cancelled ahead of Brown’s London sentencing

INDIANAPOLIS — Usher and Chris Brown’s Indianapolis show on Oct. 31 has been cancelled.

The R&B stars were set to perform on Halloween night at Lucas Oil Stadium, but an announcement on Ticketmaster’s website on Friday, Oct. 9, said the event organizer had cancelled. The Cincinnati, Columbia, and South Carolina shows were cancelled, too.

While Ticketmaster did not disclose the reasoning for the cancellations, back in July, the BBC reported that Chris Brown has a sentencing hearing scheduled for Oct. 26. Brown pleaded guilty to affray over what prosecutors called “a vicious and unprovoked attack” in a London nightclub in February 2023. The attack happened at the Tape venue, a private members’ club in Mayfair, the BBC reports.

Video surveillance footage shows Brown hitting a man on the head with a glass bottle several times, chasing him, and then pushing him to the floor, where Brown kicked him, according to the BBC.

Brown was facing a trial for more serious charges, which he denied, including assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and having an offensive weapon. Those charges have since been dropped.

Brown’s vocal coach, 40-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, a rapper from Florida who performs under the name Hoody Baby, also pleaded guilty to affray and had assault and attempted grievous bodily harm charges dropped, according to the BBC. Prosecutors said Brown approached the victim from the dance floor then struck him over the head with a bottle, and Akinlolu joined Brown and punched the victim in the head.

The victim, music producer Abe Diaw, needed hospital treatment for head and knee injuries.

During their initial hearing, Brown and Akinlolu entered their pleas at Southwark Crown Court. The judge set bail conditions that allow Brown to leave the UK, but he has to return by Oct. 25.

According to Ticketmaster’s website, a refund will be issued to the original method of payment used at the time to buy the tickets. Fans should expect to see their refund appear within 14-21 days.
