INDIANAPOLIS — Two parents were allegedly stabbed to death by their son in their north side home Sunday afternoon, according to police.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just before 12:30 p.m., officers responded to the 2700 block of Lakeshire Lane, located near West 96th Street and Township Line Road, on the report of a person stabbed.
Arriving officers found a man and a woman who had trauma wounds and had been stabbed.
Police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died shortly after arriving.
A man was detained at the scene without incident, and investigators believe the two people killed were the suspect’s parents and that the stabbing was a result of a mental health episode.
Officers are currently working to obtain a search warrant for the home.
IMPD Public Information Officer Tommy Thompson said that neighbors are very upset, describing the scene as “disturbing.”
