Tim Curry, legendary cult classic actor of stage and screen, dies at 80

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Legendary film actor and performer Tim Curry, best known for his roles in cult classics like “Rocky Horror” and “Clue,” has died, the Associated Press confirmed. He was 80 years old.

TMZ first reported his death on Wednesday. Law enforcement reportedly found Curry in his home late Tuesday night. Foul play was not suspected.

Later, Variety reported Curry’s manager and long-time friend, Marcia Hurwitz, also confirmed his death.

The England-born actor’s career began in the 1960s, though his big break came from his portrayal of “Dr. Frank-N-Furter” in the musical “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

His face and iconic baritone voice reached audiences through decades’ worth of movies, stage performances, and television, including roles in “It,” “Monty Python’s Spamelot,” “The Muppets Treasure Island,” “Psych,” and many more.

Known for his arch humor, a putty-like face and gift with voices, Curry earned three Tony nominations – for “Spamalot,” “My Favorite Year” and “Amadeus” – and an Emmy nod in 1994.

“I like playing the more curious corners of the human mind and human behavior, partly because they’re a tad more interesting,” Curry told The Associated Press in 1993.

Curry has been plagued with health issues for several years, most notably a massive stroke in 2012 that left Curry mostly paralyzed and bound to a wheelchair.
