STRAUGHN, Ind. (WISH) — A semitractor-trailer driver was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries Monday afternoon after a chain-reaction crash involving two school buses on Interstate 70 in Henry County, police said.
The crash happened at 3:30 p.m. Monday on eastbound I-70 between the interchange for Wilbur Wright Road and the overpass for Dublin Pike, said Sgt. Scott Keegan of the Indiana State Police Pendleton post that serves the district. That’s in rural area about 3 miles northeast of the Henry County town of Straughn.
Keegan said a semitractor-trailer crashed into the rear of another semitractor-trailer, pushing it into the two buses.
One bus driver was treated at the scene for injuries that were not life-threatening. No students were on the buses at the time of the crash.
Keegan said the buses did not have school district markings, and authorities are still working to determine which district if any they belong to.
Much of the interstate west of the crash site is a construction zone.
The crash site is about an hour’s drive west of downtown Indianapolis.
