INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Heavy rain and fog linger Thursday before a weekend front opens the door to cooler, drier air across central Indiana.

A Flood Watch remains in effect through 8 a.m. Thursday for northern central Indiana. Localized flash flooding remains possible where overnight storms produced heavy rain. Dense fog may also slow the morning commute, especially near rivers, creeks and other low-lying areas.

Thursday Afternoon: Humid With Lingering Showers

Scattered showers may linger over portions of southern Indiana Thursday afternoon. Most locations will see a mix of sun and clouds as rain coverage gradually decreases.

It will remain humid, with temperatures reaching the lower 80s.

Thursday Night: Clearing and Cooler

Clouds will gradually break Thursday night as the storm system pulls away.

Temperatures will fall into the lower 60s under clearing skies. There will likely be another round of dense fog developing heading into Friday morning.

Friday:

Friday starts mostly sunny and turns warmer. Humidity will return ahead of the next cold front.

The high should reach the mid-80s.

Weekend forecast:

A cold front will approach late Friday night and cross the area Saturday morning. Spotty showers, and possibly a rumble of thunder are possible during that period.

Saturday should turn drier behind the front. Highs top out near 80° later in the day.

The biggest change comes after Saturday’s front.

A much cooler and less humid air mass will spread across central Indiana. Sunday through Tuesday should feature comfortable temperatures, low humidity and mostly clear skies.

High pressure will dominate the region, producing a long stretch of some much needed quiet weather.
