(CNN) — The US military said on Sunday that another service member was killed in action during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone. The death comes a day after the Pentagon announced the fatalities of two service members in Jordan.
“A U.S. service member in northern Iraq was killed in action July 18 during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone. A second service member was wounded and continues to receive medical treatment for a minor injury,” CENTCOM said in a social media post.
CENTCOM also said it located unidentified remains in Jordan after a service member was listed as missing in action.
The deaths bring the number of US service members who have died in the nearly five-month war to 17.
