Oppressive heat and thunderstorms through Thursday | June 10, 2026

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Wednesday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Dangerous heat and potential storms forecast for today and Thursday. Heat indices could reach 100-105°.

Today: Oppressive Heat, Afternoon Storms Possible

Temperatures will climb to near 90° with dew points in the low-to-mid 70s — sends the feels-like temperature to 100 to 105° during peak afternoon hours.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. With this much moisture and instability in place, it doesn’t take much atmospheric forcing to fire up storms, which will be hard to pinpoint in advance; activity will be hit-or-miss through the afternoon.

Tonight: A Few Storms & Muggy

A few isolated storms will be possible through overnight hours. The best chance for storms will be in the northern half of the state, where storms could produce some strong winds. Heavy rain will also be a treat.

Thursday: Another Round of Dangerous Heat

Thursday brings a near-repeat of today’s conditions — temperatures near 90°, dew points in the low-to-mid 70s, and heat indices again reaching 100 to 105°.

Thursday Night: Strong to Severe Storms Likely

The more significant storm threat of the week arrives late Thursday as another wave ejects from the from our west. Models are showing more atmospheric energy available compared to Wednesday night, raising the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, especially across northwestern portions of Central Indiana.

Damaging wind gusts are the primary severe hazard, with localized flooding again a concern given saturated soils across much of the region. The cold front associated with this system pushes through late Thursday night.

Weekend and Beyond: Cooler, Drier, and Calmer

Once Thursday night’s front clears, the pattern makes a nice shift. Broad upper-level troughing settles in over the region through the weekend and into next week, bringing nearaverage temperatures highs near 80°, lows near 60° — and noticeably lower humidity.

A couple of weak disturbances embedded in the broader trough may bring rain chances on Sunday and again around Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Expect only isolated to scattered activity at most — nothing like the persistent, heavy-rain pattern of the past week.
