INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Chances for rain return later this afternoon with a brief warm-up moving in to start the weekend.

Today
Shower chances will increase from northwest to southeast during the second half of Friday. This will bring rain chances to the northern portions of central Indiana by mid-afternoon and to the Indy metro area around sunset. A few thunderstorms are possible, but severe weather is not expected.

Meanwhile, high temperatures will be a bit warmer, topping out in the mid-60s this afternoon.

Tonight
Widespread showers with a few rumbles of thunder are expected overnight. Rainfall amounts will range from a half inch to an inch across central Indiana by Saturday morning.

Saturday
Some cloud cover and isolated showers are possible very early in the morning. Otherwise, clouds will decrease through the day with breezy conditions and warmer temperatures. Highs will top out in the mid-70s during the afternoon.

Saturday night into Sunday
A weak cold front will move through the area late Saturday night. This will spark scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder. The activity won’t be as widespread as what we expect Friday afternoon and evening, so many dry hours are anticipated heading into Mother’s Day.

High temperatures will be cooler on Sunday, with highs only in the low to mid-60s.

Monday
High pressure will build into the region, bringing mostly sunny, quiet, and cool conditions. High temperatures will top out in the lower 60s.

Seven-Day Forecast
The pattern looks to remain active through the middle of the week. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will return on Tuesday and could linger into Wednesday morning. Temperatures will stay below average, hovering in the low to mid-60s through Wednesday.

There are signs of warming starting Thursday, with highs returning to the lower 70s. We may continue to climb a bit higher heading into next weekend.
