Arctic air to bring frigid temperatures and scattered snow showers | Jan. 16, 2026

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana will remain under an active winter pattern through the start of the weekend with light snow spreading across the area.

Today:

Light snow showers are continuing to move through the state this morning. There could be a few brief births with locally heavier, snow showers as possible at times, but for the most part, this just stood result in a very light coating across Central Indiana as we gear up for the morning drive.

This morning wave should wind down by mid to late morning with about a half an inch to possibly an inch of snowfall expected.

Meanwhile, high temperatures will top out into the mid and upper 30s this afternoon.

Another wave will move in later this afternoon and evening, and again could impact the evening commute. A light coating of around a half an inch of snowfall as possible with this wave, with some brief heavier bursts possible as well, just like this morning.

This weekend:

Arctic air will funnel in behind the series of fronts that are pushing through on Friday. Temperatures will hold steady into the mid-20s for Saturday morning as another boundary moves through, squeezing out and scattered snow showers. And temperatures will start to tank by the afternoon hours as Arctic air moves in. Overnight lows will fall to the single digits as we head into Sunday morning with wind chill near zero. And highs will fail to get out of the teens Monday afternoon.

Temperature slowly, moderate later next week with near normal temperatures. Precept chances look to be in play but hard to tell if we go rain or snow in the forecast as we get to the end of the week into next weekend.
