INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An illegal immigrant accused of causing a fatal crash in Indianapolis in 2010 was arrested Friday in Oklahoma, the FBI said in a news release issued Monday.
The release said Israel Espinosa, 36, is alleged to have driven a Nissan Altima that collided with an SUV at a traffic light on Nov. 27, 2010, resulting in the death of 16-year-old Megan Ratliff. Espinosa fled the scene of the crash on foot, and empty alcohol containers were reportedly found in his vehicle.
He faced several charges, including reckless homicide, failure to stop after a fatal crash, and operating a vehicle without a license.
No additional details about the crash were included in the release, which did not include a photo of Espinosa.
An FBI violent crime task force in Indianapolis found Espinosa was in the Oklahoma City area and coordinated with the FBI Oklahoma Field Office to arrest him.
Espinosa had previously been deported and reentered the United States illegally, the FBI said. He was being held in Oklahoma, awaiting extradition to Indiana.
