NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A woman died after colliding with an SUV while driving in rural Newton County Friday evening.
The crash happened around 6:13 p.m. Friday in the area of County Road 600 East, just north of C.R. 1125.
According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, a 40-year-old woman from Hebron was driving a Hyundai passenger car when she collided with a Ford SUV pulling a camper.
The woman struck the SUV’s driver side, then crashed into the camper, causing significant damage to the camper and her vehicle. She also sustained significant injuries, investigators say, and was trapped inside her vehicle before being extricated.
The woman was flown to a hospital in Chicago for treatment, but died shortly after arrival.
The 49-year-old Demotte man driving the SUV refused treatment at the scene.
Investigators have not said what led up to the crash or released the victim’s identity.
The road was closed for over seven hours while crews were at the scene.
