GREENTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — A 2-month-old boy died Sunday, and his 18-year-old father has been arrested, the Howard County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release issued Monday afternoon.
Authorities were called just after 1:45 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 7000 block of East County Road 50 North. That’s northwest of the town of Greentown in eastern Howard County. Authorities found Lucas Bieghler unresponsive, and he was later determined to be dead at Community Howard Regional Hospital in Kokomo.
Alexander Bieghler faces a preliminary charge of aggravated battery resulting in death, a top-level felony. He remained on Monday afternoon in the county jail in Kokomo without bond. Online court records did not show a case yet filed for Bieghler as of Monday afternoon.
Investigators led by Detective Ernie Shirey talked with witnesses and family members, and issued a search warrant to find evidence in the home. The release said, “Based on the evidence collected, the accounts provided were determined to be inconsistent with the injuries observed on the infant.”
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Tuesday.
The Howard County Prosecutor’s Office will determine whether to file formal charges.
The release includes all information police have shared publicly so far on the case.
