INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana’s college football teams are moving on up in the rankings.
After a gritty win at Iowa, the Indiana Hoosiers were awarded a spot in the top 10 Sunday. IU went into its first road game of the season ranked No. 11, beating the unranked Hawkeyes 20-15. That win puts the Hoosiers are No. 8 in the country, moving up three positions. It also keeps Curt Cignetti’s crew perfect through the first five games for the second straight season, which is the first time the Hoosiers have started 5-0 in back-to-back seasons in program history.
“This is a hard place to play. They got a great home record. They were juiced up for this game, and to come out with a win when maybe you didn’t play your best — and a lot of it is because of them — it’s huge,” Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti said after the game Saturday.
The Hoosiers are the fourth highest ranked Big Ten team. Ohio State and Oregon are best on the list at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Penn State remains in the top 10 even after losing Saturday night’s White Out to the Ducks in Happy Valley. Three SEC teams remain above IU. Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Texas A&M control fourth through sixth. The Rebels were the biggest movers on the entire poll, climbing nine positions after Saturday’s 24-19 win over LSU. The ACC’s Miami Hurricanes round out the top eight at No. 3.
Notre Dame’s dominant 56-13 win on the road at Arkansas moves the Irish up one position to No. 21. Notre Dame is the only two-loss team that remains in the top 25.
Next up, the Irish host the 3-1 Boise State Broncos. IU takes its first conference win into an off week.
