LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — Two people were injured and several animals were killed Saturday in a Lafayette, Indiana, building fire, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.
At 8:15 a.m. Saturday, firefighters with the Lafayette Fire Department responded to the 100 block of Wise Drive on a report of a building fire. Firefighters arrived and found a single-family, one-story structure with heavy fire and smoke issuing out of the building’s roof. The Lafayette Fire Department made a quick search of the interior and then had to take a defensive extinguishing approach due to the severity of the fire and partial collapse.
Prior to the arrival of the Lafayette Fire Department, two residents exited the building and suffered injuries. Both residents were transported to an area hospital, but only one resident received severe burns. The other resident was released from the hospital. Six pets were unaccounted. A dog and three cats died.
A preliminary fire investigation was initiated by fire investigators with the Lafayette Fire Department and the incident is still under investigation.
