COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — A 17-year-old boy died Friday after a shooting during a fight outside an apartment building, Columbus Police Department said in a news release.
Emergency responders arrived at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 3200 block of Country Brook Street North. That’s at Parkview Rental Townhomes, located southeast of the intersection of McKinley Avenue and North Marr Road on the city’s southeast side.
Police found the teenager outside the building. Medical personnel tried to save his life, but he died at the scene.
Police said a group of teenagers were fighting when the shooting happened.
The release did not name the teen who died.
No one was in custody as of 10 p.m. Friday. Columbus police detectives and crime scene investigators were following leads.
The department expressed condolences to the family and friends of the teenager in a statement: “This tragedy is a stark reminder that firearms in the hands of juveniles can lead to devastating consequences.”
