Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson shares powerful story on recovery from eye injury

JACKSONVILLE (WISH) — Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson entered the game in the fourth quarter, replacing Daniel Jones, in the fourth quarter of the 42-7 loss against the Jaguars.

Richardson threw his first regular season pass since recovering from his eye injury.

He shared a powerful story about his return from injury.

“There were definitely times where I would go to the doctor and they would tell me they don’t know if I’m going to get my vision back and stuff like that,” Richardson said. “I’m just grateful that I even get the chance to go out there and throw a pass, regardless of if I step on the field or not, because there was a day and a time when this wasn’t promised for me. I’m grateful for it and I’m just thankful.”

Richardson suffered a fractured orbital bone during a pregame incident prior to the Colts’ game against the Arizona Cardinals in October 2025.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said he’s going to “evaluate everything, every position” after the game when he was asked if Jones is still going to be the starting quarterback.

“I can’t really focus too much on it. I got to keep doing what I’ve been doing,” Richardson said. “Coming in the building, showing up to work, just preparing like I was going to be the starter regardless of what decision he makes. I just got to make sure I’m prepared when my name is called.”

Richardson also voiced his support for Jones during his struggles.

“We’re sticking with him,” Richardson said. “He has my full support. I’m supporting him 1000%. It’s tough to play quarterback in this league. It’s tough to play quarterback in general. But when the spotlight is like this, you just got to keep you head down and keep working.”

Richardson was 2-for-2 passing for 8 yards on Sunday.

The Colts will look to snap their four-game losing streak on Sunday, November 8 at home against the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
