Warm Friday ahead with highs near 60°, potential wintry weekend ahead | Feb. 26, 2026

After a quick hit of snow this morning, the next few afternoons should be quite nice before another round of winter moves back in.

Today:

A weak disturbance is moving through Central Indiana this morning. This is squeezing out mainly light snow showers, but there have been a few areas of bursts that could accumulate a little more quickly, causing some slick spots. For most areas, we’re talking anywhere between a dusting to a quarter of an inch of snowfall. We could see as much as a half inch of snowfall in western parts of the state along I-70.

For the most part, roads will be mainly wet, but there could be some minor slushy spots. Anything that does accumulate should melt off by mid-morning.

Meanwhile, the rest of the day looks fantastic with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures near 50°.

Fantastic Friday:

That warmer day of the week will be Friday, with sunshine and breezy conditions. High temperatures will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Saturday:

The start of the weekend isn’t bad, with highs in the mid-50s and a few areas reaching the lower 60s in southern Indiana.

Weekend winter system:

A frontal system will move through the area Saturday night into early Sunday morning, likely squeezing out a chance for snow or a wintry mix. This will also bring a shot of much colder temperatures to the area. Highs will only reach the upper 30s on Sunday.

There is increasing concern for winter weather Sunday night into Monday morning. The type of precipitation remains uncertain, but both snow and ice are in play as we head into the start of the work week. We will fine-tune this forecast as we get closer, but it is something we want you to keep on your radar as we prepare for the new school and work week.

Gradual warming trend next week:

While confidence is low on how much wintry precipitation we will get early next week, we are far more confident about how cold it will get, as temperatures will barely climb above freezing Monday afternoon. The good news is that we warm up quickly, with highs returning to the 40s on Tuesday, mid-40s on Wednesday, and the warm-up likely continuing late next week and over the next couple of weeks with warmer-than-normal temperatures expected. Some longer-range projections are showing highs in the 60s by next weekend.
