INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A brief tornado touched down in rural Jackson County on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service office in Indianapolis.
The tornado touched down in a field around 10 a.m. and was only on the ground for less than a quarter of a mile between North County Road 700 East and State Road 11. That’s about 2 miles south of Seymour in eastern Jackson county.
The winds speeds are unknown, which classifies the tornado as an EF-U (unknown) rating. Some minor shingle damage was reported from a nearby home.
The maximum width of the tornado was 10 yards.
This puts the total tornado count in Indiana at 58 for the year. This already surpasses the 2024 total of 57. The 30-year average is around 25 tornadoes per year across central Indiana.
