Seasonally cool temperatures have arrived in central Indiana | Aug. 21, 2025

Marcus’ 4 a.m. Thursday forecast

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The pattern shift is in full transition as cooler temperatures settle over the eastern half of the country.

Today:

Clouds are persistent this morning due to a temperature inversion overhead. Some clouds may break, especially northwest of the metro area, but expect mainly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions through much of the morning and afternoon.

A sprinkle or two is possible, but no measurable precipitation is expected.

Temperatures will run below average for this time of year, reaching the mid to upper 70s across Central Indiana.

Tonight:

Quiet and comfortable weather continues into the evening and overnight hours with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will fall to the mid-60s.

Sunshine returns:

High pressure will settle in for Friday and Saturday, clearing much of the cloud cover and slightly warming temperatures. Highs will return to near-normal levels in the mid-80s as the weekend begins. On Saturday night, a weak cold front will slide through the state, bringing a few clouds into the evening and overnight hours. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible, but most areas will remain dry.

Sunday will bring a more significant and cooler air mass, with high temperatures topping out in the upper 70s Sunday afternoon.

An early taste of fall!

The core of the cooler air will settle in overnight, with temperatures dropping to the lower 50s in the metro area and many outlying areas likely seeing lows in the 40s to start the work and school week.

Very cool and comfortable conditions will persist through the first half of the week, with highs about 10° below average, in the mid-70s.

7 day forecast:

The long-range pattern looks pleasant through the end of the weekend and into the Labor Day holiday, with very limited, if any, rain chances in the extended forecast.
