Road and intersection work scheduled to resume on West Street

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Lane restrictions are scheduled to resume on or after Monday for continued milling and paving operations on West Street in downtown Indianapolis, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

West Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 11th Street and Morris Street to allow crews to safely complete resurfacing work. Milling operations will create a four-inch grade difference in the roadway, making daytime lane restrictions necessary for driver safely.

Milling and paving operations are scheduled at night, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Saturday. In late August, work will transition to daytime operations as crews install traffic signal loops and crosswalks. Daytime work is expected to continue through early September, weather permitting.

The project is expected to be completed this fall, according to INDOT.

This project is part of a contract in partnership with the city of Indianapolis to resurface local roadways that accommodated traffic during the North Split project, which closed some downtown interstate access points. Travel delays are expected, especially during the morning and evening rush. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible.
