Postage stamp price increases; USPS ‘needed to achieve financial stability’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Jane King has your business headlines for Monday, July 14. You may have to start paying more for sending letters and buying postcards, Nissan may be producing pickup trucks in Mississippi, and more updates on international tariffs.

The latest postage stamp increase went into affect Sunday. The price of forever stamps rose from 73 cents to 78 cents.

International postcards and domestic postcards went up in price as well. The United States Postal Service said the price adjustments are “needed to achieve the financial stability.”

Ticked off about ticks? There’s a new treatment!

A long-acting flea and tick treatment from Merck Animal Health has earned approval for dogs at least 6-months old from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The new injectable treatment is called Bravecto Quantum.

It must be prescribed by a veterinarian.

Nissan in Mississippi

Nissan may build pickup trucks in the U.S.

According to a report in Japan’s Nikkei newspaper, the automaker’s Canton, Mississippi plant could be where the trucks are built.

It would be a huge boon to Nissan, which has drastically scaled back both its existing and projected U.S. manufacturing operations in an effort to curb massive losses sustained over the past 18 months.

Tariffs on Mexico and the E.U.

President Donald Trump announced the U.S. will impose a 30% tariff on goods from the European Union and Mexico starting Aug. 1.

The E.U. can avoid the levies completely, though, if companies based there shift their production to the U.S.

Mexico called the duties “unfair” and is negotiating with the U.S. To avoid the 30% rate.
