Family found dead in Greenwood, Indiana, home
GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH)- A mother, her young son, and the baby boy she was expecting–all found dead inside their Greenwood home.
Police made the discovery Monday during a welfare check and now they’re releasing more details on what may have happened inside the home.
33-year-old Karon Clay, known to her family as Ayerionna, was found dead Monday along with her 3-year-old son Karter.
The landlord who did not want to go on camera told News 8 that what police found inside the home was disturbing.
He says there was a large amount of blood in the upstairs bedroom where the blinds are now visibly bent and disheveled. “I couldn’t tell you the exact day but I do know they didn’t look like that, how they’re all tattered and off the window like that. It looked normal before,” Clay’s neighbor Hillary Hernandez said.
The landlord, who was also a friend of Clay, said she was eight months pregnant with a baby boy. Her oldest child did not live with her in the home.
After finding the shattered glass from the back door, Clay’s landlord called police for a welfare check: that’s when Clay was found dead. He said Clay had only lived in the house since May, and describes her as a mother of three, a hairstylist, and someone trying to move forward in life.
Hernandez has only lived in the neighborhood for two weeks, but said Clay typically kept to herself.
“Definitely concerning, definitely makes you feel a little uneasy, like you don’t know what’s going on or if it could affect someone else. At least I do know someone in the neighborhood that’s lived here for years and they’ve never had anything happen. It’s a very quiet nice neighborhood, so that at least gives me comfort,” Hernandez said.
Johnson County Coroner Michael Pruitt said the typical timeline for releasing the autopsy results can take up to three weeks to a month to determine the cause and manner of death.
“We’re looking for any type of trauma. We may be looking for any type of medical issues the person may have. Those can be all contributing factors. we really do a head to toe examination to see if we noticed anything that would to answering how that person died,” Pruitt said.
Court records show she also had a history with the law–past charges for prostitution, marijuana possession and multiple traffic offenses. In recent years, she faced additional charges including criminal recklessness with a weapon and criminal mischief.
But as Pruitt sees it, investigating a case where a pregnant woman and small child were killed is devastating for the entire community.
“It’s extremely tough on us because we are helping these families during maybe one of the worst times of their lives. Being able to help those families try to help lessen the impact a little bit by finding them answers is extremely important,” Pruitt said.
